While the rematch with Blaine was great, the first battle with him was terrible! Squirtle was embarrassingly taken out in a single hit despite having the type advantage. (It could've still lost to demonstrate the lesson that a type advantage isn't everything, but it should've at least put up a decent fight before going down.) Blaine gave up on Ninetales after that for no reason (like half the Kanto gym leaders strangely did with one of their Pokémon). Charizard forfeited on his own. Yes, it was a good character arc but still highly embarrassing in a gym battle. Pikachu's "go for the horn" meme was the biggest BS win Ash had until the Thunder Armor. Magmar's non-existent "air lance" ability was another load of BS. Finally, Ash and Pikachu had to forfeit basically just because Pikachu's life was at risk due to the extremely dangerous gym environment that the gym leader himself had arranged.

Arceus and the Jewel of Life and Kyurem vs. The Sacred Swordsman: Keldeo are now canon due to Ash already knowing what an Arceus is in the time travel two parter of Journeys and the fact that Ash already knows what a Kyurem is in one of the final episodes of Pokémon Journeys.

I stopped reading this after volume 2. I loved the artwork, but didn't like how they skipped so much content. Especially as most of the missed content was stuff I not only wanted to see, I wanted to see just how they planned to adapted it.

1 year late but I will still give thoughts. The match pairings were PERFECT. Alan should never go vs Ash in this because face it, you don"t want the rematch you want greninja vs Charizard which would never be the case bringing old pokemon for grudges. Leon stomping him was perfection to show how strong the no1 is. And no Steven wouldnt be easy for Alan. Lance vs Diantha also had to happen. Its the first 2 gen champion against the almost newest, tactics used, OP pokemon and just a wonderful display of champion strenght

They kinda had to nerf protean. It's basically better terastalization. The second they decided to make the gimmick about type change, the best type changing ability had to suffer for it. Here's to hoping that if the next generation doesn't have Tera, they can buff Protean back to its original badassery.
